Hapag-Lloyd presented its “LIVE” tool which will monitor the status of its reefer containers in real time.

The shipping company indicated that this new application will be launched initially to a small group of customers and will be available gradually as the reefer fleet of some 100,000 containers is being equipped with the monitoring devices.

Juan Carlos Duk, Managing Director Global Business Development at Hapag-Lloyd, explained that this tool “significantly increases the reliability of the global supply chain and the accountability of all parties involved. We are committed to the highest level of transparency by making data available unfiltered and unrestricted”.

Customers using “Hapag-Lloyd LIVE” will be able to access customizable graphical temperature limits, a convenient mapping mode and easily downloadable data sets as part of the “commodity”.

Initially “LIVE” will provide background information such as actual temperature set point; air temperature supply and return; GPS location information; container tracking and tracing events, among others.

The remote container monitoring devices will be developed by Globe Tracker ApS. The transmitters send data every time the vessel is in range of the mobile network, up to every 15 minutes when connected to a power source, otherwise every four hours. The entire reefer fleet will gradually be equipped with the devices, starting with a focus on Europe and South America.
